National Rebuilding Day was a great success!
Goodwill and hard work echoed throughout Arlington, Fairfax, and Falls Church (and around the country) on Saturday, April 30. Our faith and corporate partners, our individual volunteers who formed teams, and the professionals recruited to solve complex problems came together to support our neighbors in need.
We are grateful to the women and men who led the volunteer teams and spent countless hours planning the repairs, coaching their teams, and sweating the details. We are also grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who spent their Saturday making an impact on the lives of 15 of our neighbors and two nonprofits that serve our community.
Volunteers built ramps and installed railings, grab bars and comfort height toilets to make homes more accessible for our neighbors with disabilities. They repaired windows, doors, walls, and ceilings, installed smoke and CO alarms and fire extinguishers, made electrical repairs and installed GFCI outlets, and cleaned or replaced hazardous dryer ducts. Our volunteers made many other critical safety repairs and modifications and painted and did landscaping work that helps give our neighbors a new sense of pride and well-being and makes our community better for everyone.
We’ve uploaded hundreds of pictures to the RT-AFF Flickr. Please take a look – you’ll see lots of smiling volunteers working hard to improve the lives of families and seniors in our community.
Together we are making a difference. Thank you for being a partner in safe and healthy homes for everyone.
